Croatia in the fallOptimal temperatures for climbing

The official bathing season in Istria runs from mid-May to mid-October, with July and August being the high points of the bathing season. With a bit of luck, the water temperature is also good enough for a trip to our “deep water soloing” spot (climbing and dropping into the water).
The average temperatures of around 20 C° that we experience in October are ideal for climbing, as we don’t have to base our choice of climbing sectors on the sun exposure of the rocks or even have to find routes exclusively in the shade. A sunburn on the back of the neck at 30 C° in the shade is definitely not something we want for climbing, which is why our season is in the fall. At the same time, the summer drought is already over in October and the flora is starting to regain its strength and become greener.

Geography
The small peninsula in the north
Istria is a peninsula in Croatia and is located in the northwest of the country, bordering Slovenia. The total area of Istria is not large (3160 km²), which is why we can be at all natural and political borders of the area within a maximum of 40 minutes from our villa. Famous for its fantastic nature, diverse leisure activities, bright blue waters and Mediterranean influences. Although Croatia’s coasts are often dominated by motorhome parks, the inland is still an untouched dream. Lined with Italian/Croatian flair, ancient ruins and original villages, we think the inland of Istria is beautiful.
This is exactly what makes Pazin so interesting for us: close proximity to the sea and rocks – and yet far away from the beaten track and tourism. Here we can still find untouched rocks and natural areas, buy wine from the farmer, meet the families planting vegetables or watch the truffle dog searching.
The Roman city of Pula is located in the south of Istria, where the airport is also located. Beautiful excursion destinations can be found on the west coast, where Rovinj, Novigrad and Porec (UNESCO cultural heritage) are located, or inland, where the medieval villages of Buzet and Motovun, for example, entice visitors with delicious wines and famous olive oils.
Climbing

Individual guiding and support on the rock
Professionally accompanied
We want everyone to get their money’s worth, which is why we base our daily selection of climbing spots on your individual climbing skills and experience. We take you to the climbing area and guide you to the wall and the routes. With our many years of local experience, we are sure to find the right routes for you in every area. Afterwards, we are of course always available to answer questions and provide assistance, and we are also happy to climb with you or demonstrate something – however, we do not offer a classic climbing course. However, our climbing instructors will of course always give you tips on request so that you can get new input at any time.

Climbing guiding on the Istrian peninsula
Every level is welcome
Our offer is aimed at all climbers or those who want to become climbers – regardless of their level. To those who would like to try their hand at rock climbing, to those who have already had their first experience of climbing (e.g. in the gym) or to those who are already completely independent on the rock and are just looking for someone to show them new areas and provide them with local knowledge. We will guide you through Croatian Istria and show you the best places to climb according to your level.
A climbing partner is not a prerequisite! So you can vacation with us as a group, rope team or solo traveler. As we are always on the rock as a group, you can get together on site and also belay each other.

We have everything with us
Borrow or bring your own basics
Ideally, you should already have climbing shoes, as we do not provide them. It also makes sense to bring your own harness, but this is not a requirement – if you don’t have a harness, belay device or helmet, you can borrow them from us. All other equipment is provided by us, so you don’t need to lug ropes to Croatia, nor do you need your own belay equipment or exes. Of course, it’s no problem if you prefer to use your own equipment.
Climbing areas

Vela Draga
The enchanted valley
In front of the Ucká Mountains, the hidden valley
Vela Draga is located on the western side of the Ucka Mountains and offers fantastic panoramic views of the mountains and the karstic ridge that stretches from the border with Slovenia to the eastern Istrian Mediterranean coast. From the parking lot, you hike a leisurely approach to the edge of the valley, which you then enter steeply from above. Over thousands of years, the karst rock here has been washed full of holes, creating individual towers. We climbers are lucky enough to be able to exercise in such a place and climb on these small piles and varied sectors. The rock is grippy to sharp-edged and the sun exposure is westerly. The routes are up to 25m long and there is something here for all levels of difficulty.
The protection is optimal, so we can climb here without any fear and enjoy this dream spot in our comfort zone. A real plaisir area.
Raspadalica
The Karst edge
Downhill from the paragliding start
The medieval village of Buzet is located almost on the border with Slovenia. There are 8 areas in the immediate vicinity of Buzet. Raspadalica is one of our favorites, and not just because of its panoramic views. From the plateau above Buzet, you hike into the area from above along a ridge. As if we were doing the same as the local paragliders, we first descend into the valley to reach the climbing sector in the upper part of the ridge. Here we find routes from UIAA 4-8. As in many Istrian areas, the safety distances for lead climbing are fair and you can move around in your comfort zone without fear. The area is a little older in places and should be climbed with caution without our or other local guides. For our break, we turn around at the top and look down into the valley towards Buzet, which lies on a hilltop and is surrounded by a town wall. A truly unique view.
Rovinj
Climbing by the sea
A versatile urban area with Deepwater Solo
The Rovinj climbing area is in the immediate vicinity of the town. It is located right by the water in an old park and, in addition to climbing, we can swim and even climb deep water solo on the small offshore island of Sveta Katarina (climbing without a rope directly above sufficiently deep water).
The sectors of Rovinj offer a high density of routes ranging from easy to difficult. This area is also characterized by very good protection. The local climbing community keeps a close eye on everything and regularly maintains the equipment. The combination of climbing and swimming is a real highlight, especially on summer days.
We can find routes of all levels of difficulty here. This area is particularly suitable for first attempts at lead climbing. Those who have never been to the crag, or haven’t been for a long time, will feel at home in Rovinj, as the routes are simple and the variety of routes has something to offer for every preference.
Climbing camp

The villa
Living in an old farmhouse villa with pool
Our villa in Istria offers everything that was important to us when looking for accommodation. Thanks to the fantastic geographical location in the middle of Istria, we only need an average of 25 minutes to drive to our various climbing spots in the north, east or west. We can therefore cover the whole of Istria in terms of climbing and still have short travel times.
The villa is also spacious, so that we have enough room to play table tennis, billiards, darts, volleyball and spikeball in the communal areas and you can also find a quiet corner if you want to retreat. This combines plenty of space for relaxation with the opportunity for family get-togethers without restricting anyone’s vacation.
Our rooms are very comfortable and all have their own bathroom. The rustic style of the farmhouse can be felt everywhere and yet everything is well maintained and stylishly furnished – for us it is the perfect combination.

SAUNA, POOL, BILLIARDS & FIREPLACE
Large garden with many options
Outside, under our covered terrace, we can spend time in any weather and stand together in the evening by the outdoor fireplace or enjoy our outdoor movie night. We also often eat here in the evening when the outside temperatures allow. During the day, the large pool is a great place to relax after climbing. If it’s too chilly to take a dip during the day, you might find the right motivation after an evening sauna session.
Room

Double room
For couples or friends
Our double rooms are available with a large double bed or with two separate single beds. If you are traveling alone and would like to share your room with someone, you will get to know a nice roommate on site. We make sure that the rooms are occupied by people of the same sex unless you explicitly request otherwise.

Single room
More privacy
If you prefer to have a room to yourselves, you can also book a single room. This means you can decide for yourself at any time whether you want to mingle with the other guests or withdraw for a while.
Catering

SEASONAL, REGIONAL, ITALIAN-ISTRAL
First-class catering with consideration for diets or intolerances
The cooking skills of all our chefs mean that personal diets can also be taken into consideration. So don’t hesitate to contact us, in most cases we can cater for special diets or eating styles.

Versatile breakfast
and lunch for the rock
Your morning in Istria starts with a delicious and varied breakfast buffet. On our breakfast buffet you will find local and seasonal products as well as international additions, which we do not want to do without. It is important to us that we meet our own sustainable, ecological standards without limiting ourselves ascetically. So we enjoy local honey and vegetables and fruit from the neighbor in combination with a delicious, indispensable coffee.
At our buffet, you also have the option of filling your lunch box for the day to get you through the day. There are no external catering options in our areas, as they are located far away from the tourist hustle and bustle – with our lunch boxes, we are self-sufficient and can decide at any time when we need something to fortify ourselves

Catering after climbing
Snacks & Coffeebar
After climbing, our snack bar is at your disposal with coffee and tea, so that you can fortify yourself before the evening specialties of our chef, if you are feeling peckish.During our absence, our chef has already swung his cooking spoons and can therefore serve us dinner directly in the villa. Our aim is to use mainly local produce “from the farmer next door”. For example, we have the option of serving wine produced by our neighbor or buying vegetables from the surrounding area through a cooperative.
DINNER
On 6 out of 7 evenings we will spoil you with a 2-3 course menu of our own creation. On our restaurant evening you can get to know the local, Istrian konobas, with food a la carte and Italian-Croatian menu mix.
Yoga &
Massages

Yoga
Everything is ready
Just as important as warming up properly beforehand is stretching after sport and, for example, doing balance training. As yoga is fantastic for this, we have equipment for you on site! There are blocks, mats and blankets which you can take away at any time. All you have to do is pack your own yoga clothes. On selected weeks we also have yoga teachers on site. However, this cannot be guaranteed.

Massage room
To really let yourself go
We have set up a massage room on site where you can really relax after the daily stress. Our masseurs will welcome you there as required. There will be a list on site where you can sign up for these appointments (subject to availability).
