Our surf camp & yoga retreat by the sea
A week just for you - living by the sea, delicious, healthy food and great yoga sessions in a closed group

The yoga retreat takes place in our surf camp in Portugal. All information about accommodation, food, region, etc. can be found below in the camp details.
...
Our surf camp is located directly by the sea and consists of three houses that we share. One of these houses is reserved for our yoga retreats. The living rooms and gardens are furnished in a variety of ways and there are also other sports facilities. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are available and our chefs offer vegetarian and vegan options on request. In addition to the yoga retreat, the program of our camp consists of surfing, open yoga classes, excursions and small joint events, such as a campfire. Our yoga equipment consists of mats, belts, blocks, blankets and bolsters. It is regularly maintained by us, as we also go outside for the sessions. Look forward to yoga by the sea on a wooden platform, in the garden or in our small yoga room with the most beautiful sea view of the whole camp.
A trial surf day is already included for you.

The retreat
Vinyasa Flow & Yin Yoga

The sea is something so big, so deep…when I’m by the sea, listening to the waves crashing and watching the water, I immediately feel grounded and more connected to nature again. The fact that we can practise yoga by the sea, right in the middle of nature, is such a gift and a very special experience that you can look forward to!
ReConnect – for me, this is about connecting with myself and with others. Connecting with myself and being closer to myself and feeling more connected to other people as a result. This is exactly what I hope for this week with you – that you have had a wonderful time at the end of the retreat and feel even more at ease with yourselves, are closer to yourselves again and experience a connected time with others. And all this with lots of fun, joie de vivre and lightness.
I love to start the day with a yoga session! Do you too? The body is still tired and rusty from sleep and afterwards everything feels so free and light!
We start each day with an energizing flow class in which we wake up our bodies, stretch really well and create space. We will certainly also try one or two challenging asanas to leave our comfort zone from time to time and push ourselves further. We end the morning practice with a meditation or a mindfulness exercise to start the day clearly, consciously and full of positivity.
The evening sessions are characterized by a cooling, grounding practice to process the experiences of the day and bring body and mind back into harmony. Here we do a mix of yin yoga and gentle evening flow, paired with meditation and calming breathing techniques. We also integrate journaling and reflection questions to help you fall into a restful sleep full of gratitude.
YOGA OFF THE MAT & YOGA PHILOSOPHY
In the sessions, we will also always be guided by the question of how we can live yoga “off the mat” and what can help us transfer it into everyday life.
I really hope that every participant goes home with a full suitcase – and by that I don’t mean full of dirty yoga and surfing clothes, but with lots of new knowledge, new experiences, perhaps new friends, with the feeling of having given themselves time for themselves and with a deeper connection to themselves and their bodies. It’s going to be great!

I DEEPLY BELIEVE THAT YOGA CAN HEAL US ON MANY LEVELS
Lisa
For me, yoga is about strengthening and connecting body and mind. On the one hand, I want to be able to let go, but on the other hand, I also want to be alert and present in the here and now, aware of what is happening inside me. At the same time, it is important to me that I enjoy it and have fun. It can feel easy and challenging at the same time. My wish for myself is that I can get deeper into myself with every practice. It’s also important to me that I don’t leave what I’ve learned on the yoga mat, but that I can transfer it more and more into my everyday life. Sometimes I succeed better, sometimes worse. It is a path and I enjoy walking it – with the awareness that I can always learn something new myself and never arrive 😉
I FEEL BETTER AFTER EVERY PRACTICE – REGARDLESS OF WHETHER I WAS ON THE MAT FOR 90 MINUTES OR JUST 10 MINUTES.
I did my first yoga teacher training (200h) in Costa Rica in 2018 during a 5-month sabbatical. At the time, I only wanted to intensify my own yoga practice and learn more about yoga philosophy. However, I realized during the training that I really enjoyed teaching. Two years later, I completed another 200-hour training course at Kale&Cake in Munich. Since then, I have been teaching regular classes in Munich and love passing on my yoga knowledge to my students!
I teach Vinyasa Flow, Liquid Flow and Yin Yoga. I also love to lead pranayama techniques and meditations!
In addition to my work as a yoga teacher, I have been a personal development trainer and qualified business and life coach for many years. For me, the connection between body, mind and soul is perfectly reflected in these activities and I love the combination of mental, physical and emotional work.

MY PHILOSOPHY
Vinyasa & Yinyoga
I want my yogis to feel comfortable, have fun and enjoy moving, breathing and connecting with themselves. In my yoga classes, I try to convey my own experiences and create a space for my students to have new (body) experiences. It is important to me that everyone feels good and safe on their mat. At the same time, I also encourage people to leave their comfort zone, because only then can we truly grow. We naturally prefer to do the things that are easy for us. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that these things are always good for us. That’s why I like to follow the credo “If you don’t like it, you need it” 😉
I deeply believe that yoga can heal us on many levels. The physical level is self-explanatory due to the asana practice that we usually associate with yoga. But the mental, energetic and emotional levels are often not so much on our radar. But everything is connected. Yoga can be a wise and valuable teacher if we are prepared to look, listen and perceive what is happening to us on all levels.

Three questions for Lisa
Describe a feeling you have during yoga.
I am a person who is very intuitive on the one hand, but also very analytical and top-heavy on the other (that’s probably what all the “psychologizing” of my job entails ;-)) and I therefore think, reflect and ponder a lot. When I do yoga, however, I somehow always switch my head off and I really enjoy this “stillness” of my mind as I move, breathe and relax. It gives me a feeling of taking a deep breath, the opportunity to interrupt the chaos of thoughts.
What does yoga mean to you outside of the practice? How does it influence your everyday life?
For me, yoga “off the mat” means that I manage to pause from time to time in my everyday life, feel how I am feeling and connect with myself. To be mindful and present, to take a deep breath before I fall into an automatic spiral of stimulus and reaction. Giving myself a treat every now and then and learning to interpret my body’s signs better and better. I also try to apply and reflect on the behavioral principles of yoga philosophy – the yamas and niyamas – and incorporate them into my daily actions. You can learn more about the Yamas and Niyamas in the retreat with me 😉
Where can yoga be helpful in everyday life?
I once experienced a very intense yoga class after which I lay in savasana and cried my eyes out because so much had come up inside me. I just let it happen and let the tears flow. It was good to let it all out and the feeling afterwards was very liberating. This experience was very memorable for me and showed me once again that yoga is not just a sporting activity, but so much more…
Location

Right by the sea
GOODTIMES Surfcamp Avenida Forte do Cao 444 4910-012 Vila Praia de Ancora

Costa Verde
Empty lineups, untouched hinterland
Our camp is located on the northernmost edge of Portugal, about 80 km north of Porto, right on the Spanish border and right in the heart of the Costa Verde. The region is largely one of the lesser-known parts of Portugal. Here you will find secluded sandy beaches, extensive nature reserves and a hinterland untouched by tourism. As a cultural highlight, Porto also has a very special flair and is ideal for a day trip or weekend stopover.
One day a week we take a break, giving you the opportunity to discover the many excursion possibilities in the region with us. The Serra d’Arga nature reserve, for example, is a fantastic excursion destination and can be easily reached in 45 minutes. There are numerous hiking trails & cycle tours, beautiful river courses and whole herds of wild horses to discover.

Excursions
Portuguese flair & lots of nature
At the other end of our bay – accessible on foot via the beach – is Vila Praia de Ancora. There are many cafés and bars on the beach promenade, various restaurants and you will also find our local surf store here, where we can negotiate good deals for you. If you stroll through the side streets, you can discover a few small squares, more cafés and lots of typical Portuguese house facades.
Caminha, the border town to Spain, is around 15 minutes away by car and has a medieval town center – there are a number of cafés around the fountain in the market square where you can easily spend an afternoon. There is also a regional weekly market, great restaurants and smaller festivals in the summer.
The largest town near us is Viana do Castelo. Not only is it home to one of the best beaches for surfing in northern Portugal, there is also a charming old town, nice shopping streets and a large shopping mall. Viana do Castelo also has a number of first-class restaurants, where we have spent many a pleasant evening.
Surf camp

Rooms
Retreat and community
As we all live together in our camp, it is important to us that you can decide for yourself whether you want to have lots of people around you or just want to doze, read or relax as a couple. That’s why we have deliberately designed our three camp houses differently so that everyone can find their own space. The idea at Goodtimes Surfcamp is that all the houses can be used and not just the house in which you are staying. In the living room of Casa David you will find chessboards and board games, surf magazines and non-fiction books on the topic. After dinner, people like to sit together, chat and laugh a lot – sometimes even at our Goodtimes Bar. The yoga house, on the other hand, is quiet, where you will find instruments, yoga reading material and the general atmosphere of the house sometimes also encourages artistic exchange. In this way, we want to offer everyone the setting that he or she needs on vacation. Our Casa Miguel has its own garden, a small kitchen and its own living room and is suitable for a retreat from the main camp or for families with small children, for example.
Rooms

Double room
For two or alone
Our double rooms are available with a large double bed or two separate single beds. If you are traveling alone and would still like to stay in a double room, that’s no problem at all: in this case you will meet a nice roommate on site. We make sure that the rooms are occupied by people of the same sex unless you specifically request otherwise.

Single room
More privacy
If you prefer to have a room to yourselves, you can book a single room for an extra charge. This means you can decide for yourself at any time whether you want to mingle with the other guests or simply withdraw for a while. Our single rooms have either a large double bed or two single beds – in which case the second bed simply remains free.

Suite with bath
Premium option with private room, bathroom and bathtub
In addition to the double and single rooms, we also have rooms with a private bathroom. We particularly recommend our suite for parents with small children, so that you don’t have to worry about the other guests if your child doesn’t want to sleep at night. However, the suite is also suitable for couples or friends, as we can equip it with either a double or two single beds.
Catering

Overview
Healthy, regional and varied
Our kitchen is run by two trained chefs, so the food here is sure to be one of the highlights of your vacation. All meals are healthy, varied and largely prepared from regional products. Meals consist of 7 breakfasts, 6 lunches and 5 dinners – we naturally have insider tips for the two restaurant evenings so that you can get to know the local cuisine even better. On request, we are happy to offer purely vegetarian or vegan meals and can easily cater for any intolerances – without you having to do without anything.

Breakfast
The perfect start to the day
The day starts with an extensive breakfast, which you can put together yourself at the buffet and eat at the breakfast table, on the terrace or at one of our cozy sunny spots scattered around the grounds. One thing is certain: breakfast tastes particularly good with a view of the waves. Freshly baked rolls, bread, cheese & cold cuts, jams and a small muesli station are supplemented daily with various extras and on two days you can look forward to a big breakfast special that our chefs will prepare for you – let us surprise you.

Lunch
Big lunch break after surfing
Lunch is always planned so that you come out of the water after surfing and have a delicious meal on the table straight away. We serve lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, soups and salads and at least once a week we turn lunch into a small event in the garden. It’s important to us that you can quickly recharge your batteries with a light meal so that you can possibly do a second session or go to yoga afterwards and still be provided with a varied and, above all, delicious meal.

Dinner
Three courses at sunset
Our dinner is usually served in the garden with a fantastic sea view and always consists of three courses: a creative appetizer, a main course and a dessert creation. This is where our chefs really come into their own in culinary terms and the location, the sunsets over the sea and the excellent quality of the food create a great atmosphere in which to relax at the end of the day.

Surf spots
Surfing and weather in Northern Portugal
There are almost always waves on the northern Portuguese coast and in May, June and October in particular, one or two good swells will also bring us bigger waves. The probability of good conditions is consistently high in the north of Portugal, and compared to France or Spain, we definitely have the edge during our seasonal periods. Thanks to our many different spots, we also always have the option of choosing a larger or smaller wave for surfing, depending on what we need.
Gelfa - Our bay
Our bay in front of the camp is north-west facing and the curvature makes for many different spots that work well at different times and conditions. The waves in the southern part of the bay are particularly suitable for smaller days. The northern side of the bay is protected by a breakwater and offers a great alternative on big days. The middle of the bay often breaks a little stronger, so advanced surfers are sure to get their money’s worth here. There is always a wave in this bay and everyone will find their favorite spot here.
Viana do Castelo
Cabedelo – the sports beach in Viana – is a spot for big days. The large harbor breakwater makes for sorted, gently breaking waves that are always significantly smaller than here in the bay and the Portuguese surfers are very friendly. The spot offers the perfect opportunity if the waves in the other bays get too big.
Afife, Moledo and more
The north of Portugal naturally offers many more spots for surfing. Our neighboring bays Afife and Moledo are sometimes better and sometimes worse than our spot, depending on the wave direction and wind. If you would like to have a look around, we will be happy to help you with tips on other spots. As our bay offers many different waves, we usually stay in Gelfa with our courses.

Surfing equipment
From the softboard to the test center
For our surf courses, we use softboards for beginners. If you are interested, we have hardboards that are suitable for switching to more advanced equipment. We are happy to take an extra board for you during the courses.
For advanced riders, we have a test center with 20 boards ranging from shortboards to longboards. So you can experiment and have the right board for every wave size.
Our wetsuits are 4 mm thick and more than sufficient for an extensive session.
Our equipment is always at your disposal, even outside the courses.
Yoga

Yoga Sessions
Participate spontaneously and get to know different styles
Yoga and surfing are a perfect combination. In addition to our surfing courses, we offer daily open yoga classes that you can join spontaneously. You don’t need any previous experience and you don’t have to register separately, our yoga teachers have a lot of teaching experience and can adapt to the level of each individual. The sessions usually take place on a beautiful wooden platform of the old fort right by the water or, depending on the wind and weather, in the garden or in our yoga room. A session lasts 75 minutes and costs €15.
We offer at least 5 sessions per week, which are held by our in-house yoga teacher. These classes are supplemented by additional classes from two local yoga teachers with whom we have been working for several years. Meditations outdoors or in our yoga house are also part of our program. The content of the yoga is adapted to the surf sessions: Yoga before surfing is designed to activate and prepare you for the physical exertion, while the sessions after surfing primarily have a relaxing “cool down” effect. We try to adapt the classes to the daily schedule and leave enough time between the different program points.

Yoga spots & material
Outdoors or in the yoga room
The yoga classes at our camp are not only intended to provide you with a physical balance to surfing, but also to ensure that you can really switch off during your vacation. The best place to do yoga with us is without question the wooden platform at the old fort in front of the camp. The platform ends just a few meters from the water’s edge, so the yoga sessions here are accompanied by the sound of the waves. In and around the fort, there are also idyllic places for meditation among the rocks.Of course, there is also a yoga room with a great view of the sun setting over the sea – in the evening, lots of candles and lights create a particularly beautiful atmosphere in the house. We use this room for yoga classes when they take place indoors, and this is also where we keep our equipment. In addition to the classes, you can also use the room for meditation or private yoga in consultation with us.Yoga on the lawn in the garden is also a wonderful experience and is particularly suitable for balance and partner exercises.
We have all the equipment you need for your yoga sessions on site. For outdoor yoga, we recommend one of our mats as an additional base if you are traveling with your own equipment. As it can get a little chilly when the sun goes down, we also recommend suitable sportswear. Our equipment is cleaned regularly and is available to you free of charge at all times.
What do
our guests say?

I went to Portugal again for yoga. As always, everything went well. The location and the food were great again and the team on site was great. I was traveling with a small baby and they made a lot of effort to make sure it was easy for us to handle. I'll definitely be back.

I booked the yoga week with the wonderful Annika and there were some lovely girls there! I hadn't had much yoga experience before. I also booked surfing and had a great group with a great surf instructor! It was a great, exciting week with lots of new experiences, delicious food and meeting so many great new people! I can only recommend it to everyone!😍

This is the fifth time I have been to the Goodtimes surf camp in Portugal and it is now like “coming home”. The atmosphere in the camp is very familiar, the team is super friendly, the food is extremely tasty and the camp is in a very quiet location and almost directly by the sea. If you're looking for a perfect mix of uncrowded surf spots, culinary highlights, great open yoga sessions, peace & relaxation and quickly making new friends, then you've come to the right place :)
